MISSION 004 [SOUTHERN ROUTE 35 - ACTION/VIDEO]

[[GOOD MORNING, JOHTO! Should you be watching your video feed this fine day, or in the vicinity of the outskirts of Goldenrod City, you'll soon catch sight of Alex Louis Armstrong posing dramatically in front of the camera, shirtless. Of course.]]

I have a marvel for you all today! My beautiful Stein has evolved into his final form!

[[And suddenly, popping up in front of the camera is....

....a swan in a purple bra. A sparkly purple bra.]]

Witness the way the sunlight catches his glossy feathers! The way the light sparkles across his wings! Have you ever seen such a magnificent sight, Johto?!

[[As Armstrong speaks, the Swanna goes through a series of triumphant poses. And if one looks closely, they might even see some....pink sparkles near his eyes? Could he have learned the art of the Armstrong sparkle, passed down in the Major's family for generations?]]

My Pokemon are now all in their final forms! And so I pose this question to you, noble viewers; what Gyms do you recommend we take on? We have been training our bodies firmly and dutifully in preparation for this day!

[[And behind him, Armstrong's team of Pokemon sit quietly, mostly looking amused at his display. Some look annoyed, but more at the Swanna's posing rather than their trainer.]]

Alternatively, should you wish to come and marvel at the sight that is the magnificent and beautiful Stein the Swanna, I welcome you all with open arms!

Ah, you mean Colonel Archer! I admit I don't know him all that well, but he seems like a pleasant enough fellow! And...white suited...!

[[...Armstrong's expression will noticeably darken once he figures out who Descole is referring to.]]

You mean Solf. J. Kimblee.

[[HE WILL HOLD HIMSELF BACK FROM CRUSHING ALL THE BONES IN YOUR HAND, OKAY!]]

Don't give up, Ryuunosuke! My Pokemon also started out small and meek, but look at them now!

[[AND HAVE A MIGHTY FLOURISH TOWARDS HIS TEAM SITTING QUIETLY BEHIND HIM! THEY ALL SPARKLE]]

You just have to believe in yourself!

[Archer's expression darkens when that move hits - both Queen and Trébuchet take the hit. They survive, though both aren't going to take another hit like that. Trébuchet has been paralyzed, which causes her Marvel Scale ability to kick in. Defense won't do a damn thing against another Special Attack though. Archer waves a hand airily in her direction and she uses Recover. It won't do much, but at least with the heightened defense she won't go down to anything Maa can throw at her. ...Hopefully.]

[Queen, on the other hand, shakes herself off and goes back to stabbing her knive-hands in Armstrong's direction. Archer points toward the injured Pidgeot and Queen dashes forward, sweeping one blade-arm down in an Aerial Ace attack.]

[[....Clive, these flawless naming skills....]]

I see! What an incredibly ability she has!

[[His Swanna will just give her the haughtiest look]]

Say, could she transform into Stein, if she needed to? Let me see her technique, my boy!

[...that...was surprising, actually; as far as Descole has seen, Archer is the one that he should be concerned about. If Armstrong didn't know him well, it's possible that he simply hasn't realized; Descole hadn't known for a while himself.

However.

From what he's heard from Emmy, Kimblee is a gentleman; a bit misguided, perhaps, but a good friend to her. That hasn't meshed with what Descole has seen - Cobra has commissioned Kimblee for "jobs" before, and Archer rather unwittingly confirmed that Kimblee was at least partially behind the bombing at the Game Corner. At the same time, there was a chance that Kimblee was ordered into it by Archer or coerced by Cobra; if nothing else, it's possible that Kimblee is just easily pushed around.

But that response...it's odd.]

Ah...yes, Mr. Kimblee. I take it there's bad blood between you?

[TH-THANK YOU FOR THAT... orz]

Wow...! So cool! Did you teach them how to sparkle like that?

[You've kind of been doing a lot of that, sir!]

[THIS WAS NOT WHAT ENVY WAS EXPECTING TO SEE TODAY.

...Maybe he can just. Turn around and escape before he's noticed.]

[Too bad for Envy he's got his Houndoom along with him today, and said Houndoom has caught sight of this new person and new pokemon and there are things sparkling and he must investigate. So Armstrong will have a sunglasses-wearing hellhound letting out a bark of greeting and trotting on up to him, tail wagging and looking oh so excited to meet everyone.]

[[.......dazzle]]

What would you like to talk about, Colonel?

Kimblee is a monster.

[[The response is blunt, emotionless, and completely devoid of that earlier joyous air. Even the Swanna has grown quiet and reserved.]]

[...Armstrong... you haven't seen Isaac's ungodly amount of Pokémon, have you...]

[He totally copies Kimblee in every way! Literally. He can't stop collecting Pokémon.]

Huh, well that's... certainly one way to train. How did you decide on only these six? I mean, there are a lot of really interesting Pokémon out there.

...what?

[Well, of all things he had expected, it honestly hadn't been that.]

He's always seemed rather charming, actually...I'm not trying to doubt you, this is just a bit of a shock - might I ask what he's done that's so terrible?

[[Maa shrieks angrily when the attack hits, but it's more of a sting than anything too serious. Picking herself up, she shrieks again, taking to the air. It's a bit slower than she would usually, as she's still trying to shake off the effects of that Hydro Pump, but she gets up there.

Lowen, on the other hand, immediately springs towards the Milotic, teeth bared in a Thunder Fang technique, while Maa soars back towards Queen, talons out, in a furious Hurricane attack.]]

Finish them!

[Both attacks hit simultaneously and Queen and Trébuchet are knocked out. Archer's expression changes to pure fury for a moment before he controls himself and returns both of them. The next two out are far stronger - Caïssa the Luxray and Arbiter the Drapion.]

Arbiter!

[The Drapion is a bit on the herpy side and tends to require a bit more direction than his others. Archer gestures in the direction of the weakened Maa and the Drapion springs forward, charging up his own Thunder Fang attack. Meanwhile the Luxray launches herself at her male counterpart over there, aiming a Superpower attack at him.]

[[Armstrong sighs, folding his hands behind his back.]]

Normally I wouldn't go out of my way to sully his name, but since you're already acquainted with him....I find it best to warn you.

[[He turns, then, looking back towards the city.]]

Kimblee and I do have history. We served in a war together. A terrible, terrible war. It was honestly more of an extermination than anything else. I...still have nightmares about it. We practically obliterated an entire race of people.

Kimblee had the highest death count. And I know for a fact that he considers it an achievement, not a hideous mistake born of orders from superiors you couldn't refuse.

He slaughtered thousands, Mr Descole. Unapologetically.

[[....why is it wearing sunglasses

OH WHO CARES, THAT'S FABULOUS]]

[[Armstrong doesn't miss the look of fury on Archer's face, but he files it to the back of his mind as he focuses on the battle in front of him.]]

Maa...!!

[[The Pidgeot crashes to earth with a screech, her wings twitching as she passes out. With a concerned frown, Armstrong quickly returns her to her pokeball, murmuring to it inaudibly as he selects his next pokemon.]]

Stephanitz, Flame Wheel!

[[And out bursts his Arcanine, running towards the Drapion in a swirl of flames. Meanwhile, Lowen accepts the tackle from his female version over here, eyes widening in shock as the Superpower technique hits, knocking the air out of his lungs and causing him to release a strangled cry as he weakly tries to bite Caïssa in rebuttal, quickly sinking to the ground.]]

[He'd say something but... But-- SassyGaySwan.

You can have this face though Armstrong. Forever.]

I don't know what you're talking about~

[[.......sparkle~]]

I teach my Pokemon everything I know, my boy!

I...well.

[Descole hesitates for a moment; this is nothing like what he expected to hear going into this, and he's honestly hesitant to ask about anything further. He's willing to take most secondhand information with a grain of salt, but between this account and the fact that Archer has seemed...incredibly off when he's spoken to him, this isn't something Descole can ignore.]

I'm incredibly sorry to hear about your experiences, Major Armstrong. It's not...

[He pauses for a moment, his hands tightening at his sides; this is so awkward; the words aren't coming nearly as easily as they normally do.]

It's not an easy thing to recall, I'm sure. And I appreciate your...telling me about it.

[He fidgets a bit before continuing.]

I've never seen war, personally, but combat in general has a way of changing people... You're certain that isn't what this is - that he's still a threat?

Oh, I'm well aware. But I just...

[[He looks over at his team, smiling fondly.]]

I couldn't bear to abandon any of them to the 'box'. I just couldn't, Mr Isaac. They're like a family to me.

Aha! Have you tuned in to marvel at the magnificence of my beautiful Swanna, good sir?

[[IT IS THE SASSIEST SWAN YOU EVER DID SEE

LET IT POSE FOR YOU, IVAN!!]]

[Excellent, he can work with this. Arbiter is built for defense and takes the hit quite well. Caïssa also takes the attack and dashes away to get some distance. Archer folds his arms and nods in the direction of Stephanitz - Caïssa quickly complies by switching her attention over to the Arcanine. She lets loose a Swagger attack while Arbiter acts of his own accord, slamming his tail against the ground and unleashing an Aqua Tail attack.]

[...Has Archer mentioned he's very fond of those move tutors? Whoops~]
